If endless mountains sing Of what would it be The distant melodies of how it used to be Before the holocene Before the rising seas On and on and on and on If endless mountains sing Oh what would it be The peaceful melodies of how it used to be The same for me But of the spring My cheeks flushed in pink As the cherry blossom trees On it goes And on it goes On and on and on and on

You're a hive of bees And all the wild Lost on me Oh it must've been a dream Me bursting at the seams I'd never allow such relief Still you let me be And me to you To you I think And you follow me From sea to sea When I can be a swing Swaying like a willow tree Or a sudden spring Warm in the sun Cold when it leaves When it leaves No, no thoughts to why It'll pass us by But the air is all fresh Around you, around me too

about

“Sudden Spring” is built around a guitar part that came to me while stuck at home in early April. There was a lot of uncertainty. I was out of work and upcoming plans fell apart. Within 10 minutes I had all of the words and a rough demo. A week later the song was finished. The song to me represents the tenderness of spring. In all the good and bad there's still something to be hopeful about. There's still peace to be found.

The past few years have been built around definitive goals and plans but suddenly I had a song that didn’t fit into those plans. At first, I felt I should release it as a single, but the rest of the EP started to fall into place.

Other bits and pieces existed from over the years that never fit before but started to make sense within a newer context. My tendencies have always drifted towards indulgence and excess. For once I felt I was taking a step back. My focus shifted towards restraint.

"Endless Mountains" is a reference to the region I'm from and how it's connected to me. The Endless Mountains are soft hills in the Northeastern region of the Appalachian Mountains. With the climate crisis and chaos surrounding me I wondered if the landscape wished for simpler times – just like me.

"Smallmouth Bass" is a brief instrumental that reminds me of the Susquehanna River that flows through my hometown. It's one of the most polluted rivers in the country. Coal mining was king until it collapsed and left my area in an economic slump it will most likely never recover from. Recently there was a Smallmouth Bass caught from the river with a rare cancer. Everything taken from the land over the past decades has ruined a once pristine landscape. The ecosystem still tries to exist despite the difficulties.

"At The Big River Flat" is another nod to the region. It translates to "Wyoming," and the area I'm from is commonly referred to as "The Wyoming Valley." It features frogs chirping that arrive every early Spring. It’s a sound/energy I’m fond of after every winter.
